‘Madrid a step ahead, but…’

Roberto Carlos believes Real Madrid are better now than when he was at the club and says they are ‘a step ahead’ of Galatasaray, but still warns of the Turks.

Los Blancos are preparing this week for Wednesday evening’s first leg Champions League quarter-final clash against Gala at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Ahead of the test, former Madrid full-back Carlos was taken to task on the current state of the team and their chances going into the tie.

“It would be wrong to want to compare the two Coaches,” began Carlos in Turkish newspaper Milliyet.

“Jose Mourinho and Fatih Terim are both two legends who have won Cups and they have made history with their successes, but in this game, as far as regards the tactical fight, depth and quality, Mourinho’s team is one step ahead.

“Madrid have always had good players, but I believe that the team is even stronger now than when I played there, they have better players and play more organised.

“But, the second leg may become very difficult – the atmosphere in the stadium is impressive and in Istanbul, Galatasaray could eliminate Real Madrid.”
