Matuidi: Spain still the best

Blaise Matuidi has reflected that despite France’s advantage heading into Tuesday evening, Spain remain ‘the best team in the world’.

La Roja are two points and a place down on World Cup qualification Group I leaders France heading into their direct clash this midweek.

“It is important to know that winning or drawing the game will be positive, but we must also not forget that Spain are still the best team in the world,” determined Paris Saint-Germain and France midfielder Matuidi to reporters today.

“In the reverse fixture we took confidence and we became aware of our qualities. Now there is more certainty, we know that we can cause problems for any team.

“But we will not stop at that. Spain will undoubtedly seek revenge for the draw against Finland. This game will be as complicated as the reverse fixture.

“They will try to have the ball, to dominate the game.

“Key to winning? It will be a bit of everything, especially in understanding the game. Physical strength will be only one element.

“What is certain is that we will need to be at 100 per cent if we do not want to lose. We have to be more lucid than we were in the first half of the reverse game in Spain, especially in recovery of the ball.

“Whilst we have the ball, we have to cause them problems.”
