Rayo confident of UEFA license

Rayo Vallecano have reportedly applied for a UEFA license, in the eventuality of playing in European football next season.

The Madrid minnows are reported by AS to have taken the measure, as required by all clubs in anticipation of the following season, so as to host European games at Vallecas.

With 10 games of the season remaining, Rayo are three points away from the sixth and currently final European qualification slot.

However, they are just a point and a place away from eighth too, which with Malaga’s potential European ban and Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid’s contest in the Copa del Rey Final, may be enough for Europa League qualification.

Rayo are understood to be confident of meeting the five points of requirement in order to be granted a license to host games at Vallecas, believing that the stadium meets all the standards asked of it.

Beyond the stadium, the club must also meet infrastructure, personnel administration, legal and financial requirements.

If UEFA do not grant Rayo a license on the basis that the ground is unsuitable, and they subsequently qualify for Europe, the club will have to find an alternative host for European fixtures.
