David Villa and Barcelona will now only discuss the striker’s future at the club after the season has ended.
Marca understand that the player’s recent return to the first XI, coupled with goals against Milan and Rayo Vallecano have ‘changed the situation’, with both the 31-year-old and his employers uncertain now over his otherwise-rumoured departure.
Villa, who enters into the final year of his contract in the summer, is described as still of a mind to leave the club, having struggled for regular playing time since recovering from December 2011’s leg break.
However, the return to the fore has him prepared to listen to Barca at the end of the season and not consider interested parties elsewhere until then.
The Catalans, meanwhile, are eager to offer a new contract to the Spain international, but reportedly still with the long-term angle of using the player in a bit-part role.
