‘Camp Nou final could have happened’

Barcelona board member Toni Freixa has revealed that the club would have allowed the Copa del Rey final to be played at Camp Nou.

The final between Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid will be played at Santiago Bernabeu in May, but only after lengthy discussions between the clubs almost derailed plans entirely.

Valencia's Mestalla and the Blaugrana's home ground were seen as potential venues, and the board secretary has admitted they would have accepted hosting the match.

“If they had asked, we would have accepted,” he told Cadena Cope. “I, at least, would have said yes.

“We would not go to such a low level that we would not let a rival play at our stadium.”
