Real Madrid midfielder Xabi Alonso could be set for a return to Liverpool, according to reports in the British Press.
Talksport claim that the Premier League club have enquired about the situation regarding the 31-year-old's contract talks at Santiago Bernabeu, with a view to making a bid.
The Spain international has been hesitant in renewing his deal with Los Blancos which expires in June 2014.
The club have offered him a two year extension, but AS believe that he is stalling on the offer and would jump at the chance to return to Anfield.
Alonso left the Merseyside club in 2009 having won the FA Cup and the Champions League.
