Simeone: Fans will be proud

Diego Simeone saluted his Atletico Madrid players after they ‘left everything on the pitch’ on Wednesday to earn a Copa del Rey Final spot.

Atleti picked up a 2-2 draw at Sevilla yesterday to win through 4-3 on aggregate in their Cup semi-final, much to Simeone’s delight.

“I think that from the start the attitude was very good,” El Cholo enthused at the end.

“I felt that in the first minutes of the match the team had an important ambition to take the math and the truth is that we responded very well, especially in the first stage of the game.

“Then came the goals and they made us better carry the game. I found that the team gave it everything, they looked for the goal and found it and it became more difficult for the opponents to play.

“Today the people of Atletico are happy. They get up the next morning and their team will be playing well, full of joy to see the team fighting in second in the League as competitive as the Spanish and again in a final.

“That speaks highly of the players, the effort they are making, the people behind them, the physios, doctors, kit men…

“It is a triumph of all because without the work of the people who you do not see, it is impossible that the players would be at their current level.”
