Diego Costa: I was under control

Atletico Madrid’s Diego Costa says that his involvement in Sevilla’s two red cards last night was at a minimal, as he was ‘under control’.

The striker opened the scoring in the Copa del Rey semi-final second leg at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium, before setting up Radamel Falcao’s second in the eventual 2-2 draw.

Whilst it was enough to book the visitors a place in the competition final, Costa faced questions by reporters afterwards on the red cards Gary Medel and Geoffrey Kondogbia picked up, both in unsavoury moments aimed at the Brazilian.

“I had everything under control. I was down on the ground and was not going to get up [after Kondogbia’s challenge]…” defended Costa in the post-match.

“In life you learn from everything. People have talked about me as if I am a murderer. I know that I have been wrong and I try to control myself more.

“They did not go out to get to me, it is just that I was there.

“My form? The team is doing well and that is why things are going well for me. I think of improving myself every day. Hopefully I can continue like this.”
