Sergio Ramos has complained that he was sent off yesterday for his past history and image, rather than for doing anything wrong for Real Madrid.
After scoring his team’s second goal in their eventual 2-0 win over Rayo Vallecano on Sunday night, the centre-back was sent off for two quick bookings before the 20-minute mark.
“I am pained by the situation. It is not normal for me to pick up two bookings in two minutes. I’m not making any fouls or doing anything wrong,” complained the Spain international afterwards.
“It pains me to have left my teammates with a disadvantage and to have forced changes. Spanish deserves the best referees because we have great players.
“Referees are required to know how to interpret situations. My first card was totally unfair. You cannot put a team down to 10 men for that.
“It’s easy to send off Sergio Ramos, for history and image. It is worrying. In European cups or continental competitions there is another type of officiating.”
Ramos was asked of Jose Mourinho’s comments post-Manchester United that seemed to point the finger at the defender for Madrid’s concession of Danny Welbeck’s goal from a corner.
“Everyone is free to think what they like. My style and education has never been to point out anyone, much less a companion for an error.
“Now we must be more united than ever because there are important games ahead.”
