Milan deny doping link

Milan have come out to deny any links to Spanish doctor Eufemiano Fuentes, who is on trial in Spain for alleged doping offences.

Dr Fuentes is facing a maximum sentence of two years if found guilty officially of a ‘crime against public health’, for alleged doping offences during 2006.

Originally linked with cycling, Fuentes told reporters last week that he also worked with footballers, whilst Real Sociedad’s former President Inaki Badiola suggested that the Basques’ former doctors were supplied banned substances courtesy of Fuentes.

Seized documentation from Fuentes for the trial has been published in Spain this week and listed ‘Milan’, ‘Rsoc’ and ‘Alberto’ on it, leading to suggestions that Real Sociedad and a Milan club – football or cycling – were clients of Fuentes’.

Following on from Real Sociedad’s denial, though, Milan have also made clear that they have no connection to Fuentes.

“AC Milan have never had any direct or indirect contact with Dr Eufemiano Fuentes,” read a statement posted on the Italians’ official website today.

“Any reference to the activities of Dr Fuentes linked to the club are either a false interpretation of events of are simple incorrect.

“AC Milan will seek legal action against any persons who claim, insinuate or give credit to facts contrary to those stated above.”
