Ibra: Guardiola has an opportunity

Zlatan Ibrahimovic has reflected on Pep Guardiola’s signing with Bayern Munich as well as rumours of working at PSG with Jose Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The tall Swede, who is basing his football in the French capital this season with Paris Saint-Germain, notably clashed during a single season in Spain with Guardiola.

Whilst having since criticised him in interviews, the striker was diplomatic in considering his confirmed agreement to work at Bayern from next season.

“It is a personal decision and is what he feels he has to do and I think that is most important,” Ibrahimovc told Marca in an interview published today.

“It’s a great opportunity for him to take advantage of. Everyone should be happy and not everyone is presented with this chance.

“They are a great club with great players and an impressive structure and organisation.

“The German mentality is different. He has the same opportunity to repeat the work he did in Barcelona. They will be one of the five best teams in the world and it is an opportunity to be seized.”

Ibra was asked of the rumours that continue to generate this season that he could be joined in the summer by Real Madrid pair Mourinho and Ronaldo.

“For any team it would be great news because Mourinho is a great Coach, the best in the world.

“Cristiano Ronaldo is also one of the best players there is today, but today it is not a reality.

“People can dream of their arrival and speculate, but until it is real I cannot give an answer.

“The environment at PSG? I have gone through great teams and I have worked with very good players in each of them. Here this is also the case, but I believe that the environment is suitable for us to achieve great things.

“The key is always hard work. And especially to believe in yourself. Confidence in your own ablilities I think is essential. It is essential for success.”

Ibra will be back in Spain with PSG in the coming weeks as they clash with Valencia in the Last 16 of the Champions League.

“I think it will be a difficult tie. Valencia are a great team that practices good football, like most Spanish teams. In the Champions League there are no easy games, but I think that we can do well. So we have to play and try to enjoy the tie.

“Keys to the tie? Valencia play good football, we are wary. The first game will be at Mestalla and will be very important.

“They are a tough team and we will have to be very focused. It will be the small details that will be decisive.”

Ibra has won Leagues with Ajax, Juventus, Inter, Barcelona and Milan, but has yet to win the Champions League.

“I’m trying [laughs]. It is my goal. With PSG now I have a good opportunity because they are a great team. Let’s see if we are lucky.”
