Thiago: Goal is no-one’s fault

Thiago Alcantara has been grilled on his mistake that led to a goal for Malaga yesterday evening, responding that Barcelona won’t change their approach.

The youngster lost possession near his own goal to allow Malaga to take the lead in an eventual 2-2 draw in the first leg of the teams’ Copa del Rey quarter-final at Camp Nou.

“We have an assimilated style of play and are fully confident in it. Sometimes in a second you can make an error, it was my turn,” reflected Thiago when asked of the incident in today’s Press conference.

“We must turn the page and think towards La Real. Certainly I can learn from it. No-one wants to stumble on the same stone.

“That play has been done a thousand times, but it is a situation of the game and we will continue playing this way. It hurts for the work of my teammates.

“I have developed here for my game and I will not change that for anyone or anything. This is what has led me to the best club in the world and I will keep playing like this.

“Is Pinto to blame too? No, I repeat, we have a style of play that is assimilated and the goalkeeper must do what he did. It’s a matter of a second, I decided instead of giving it first time to take a touch.

“That control went wrong and the game was in a situation where they went a goal up. It is no-one’s fault.”

The game finished 2-2, with Malaga taking valuable away goals back to La Rosaleda for the second leg next week.

“Is this good to keep our feet on the ground? It is never good to take a step back. We are on a good run, but something had to happen, it is normal in the world.

“You always want to win every game but it is impossible.

“We’ve never played for a result, we always intend to win and the second leg will be no different. They have the advantage for having scored here, but these two games show that we have learned to create chances and we have confidence in progressing to the next round.”
