Cerezo: Let’s see who has €60m

Atletico Madrid President Enrique Cerezo has added his voice to those saluting Radamel Falcao as the world’s best number nine.

It’s a claim many others have made already this season, but one which was lent extra validity by the Colombian striker’s remarkable performance against Deportivo La Coruna last night. ‘El Tigre’ hit five of Atleti’s goals in the 6-0 rout at the Vicente Calderon.

“Right now he is the best number nine in world football,” Cerezo told journalists. “But he still has a lot of football to play.

“It’s the first time I’ve seen a player score five goals here. Christian Vieri and Milinko Patic got four, but never five.”

Inevitably the next questions regarded the player’s possible exit.

“First let’s see who has €60m,” laughed the official. “Do you have it? Because I don’t.”

Cerezo is pleased with Atleti’s return to form after two consecutive defeats.

“Yesterday was a great game, three very important points, and we’ll see what happens on Wednesday [against Getafe]. We want to go far in the Copa del Rey.

“In every competition you win and lose games. We lost two and drew another but we are well positioned and have a team that is content and happy.”
