Ronaldo: 2012 not over yet

Cristiano Ronaldo has promised Real Madrid’s supporters that the team intend to end the calendar year and season ‘in the best way possible’.

Los Merengues have fallen 11 points behind Barcelona in the title race and go into the weekend’s derby with Atletico eight points behind them too.

However, for forward Ronaldo, there is still time to rescue the situation.

“2012 has not finished yet and Madrid’s target is to finish the season in the best way possible,” he told Madrid’s official website.

“This is why we are concentrating on the next match, on Saturday, when we aim to give our supporters something to be happy about”.

The Portuguese was talking just hours after he was confirmed as shortlisted for the 2012 Ballon d’Or and the FIFPro World XI.

“For me it is an honour to be a candidate for the Ballon d’Or and for FIFA’s World XI, and I am very proud.

“They are two very special awards and I think that being amongst the candidates is primarily the result of the hard work and support of my teammates, both at Real Madrid and Portugal.

“I would like to congratulate my Coach, Jose Mourinho, for being picked as a candidate for the Coach of the Year, after winning the League title in a record breaking season, as well as the Supercopa de Espana.”
