Cannavaro prefers Pirlo, Iniesta

Fabio Cannavaro would not vote for Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo in this year’s Ballon d’Or, instead opting for Andres Iniesta and Andrea Pirlo.

The former Juventus and Real Madrid defender, who won the award back in 2006, believes that this year the voting is not as clear cut as critics believe.

“Cristiano or Messi? I do not think that it is only between those two,” explained the retired defender to France Football, the publication that hand out the award each year in collaboration with FIFA.

“I prefer Pirlo or Iniesta. Andrea is an outstanding player and not only won the Scudetto with Juvetus, but led Italy to the final of Euro 2012, whilst Andres is an incredible player, and has shown himself to be important for Spain and Barcelona.

“Of course, though, it will be difficult to overcome such stars as Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.”
