Atleti still want Bergessio

Regardless of Radamel Falcao’s future at Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone is reported today as intent on reuniting with Catania’s Gonzalo Bergessio.

El Cholo is understood over the summer to have recommended his fellow Argentine to Atleti as a possible replacement for Falcao, who was anticipated to be leaving.

However, with the Colombian instead remaining, nothing materialised for the now 28-year-old. Mundo Deportivo report today, though, that Simeone is keen for the Madrid side to make a move for the player next June, even if the club also still manage to keep hold of Falcao.

Simeone briefly worked with Bergessio at San Lorenzo in 2009, before bringing him to Sicily in January 2011 and spending a profitable six months together in Serie A.
