Barca targeting record start

A win or draw today for Barcelona at home to Celta Vigo would give Tito Vilanova a club record for the best start to a League campaign.

Last weekend’s 5-0 win at Rayo Vallecano saw the former assistant’s version of Barca secure 25 points from the opening possible 27.

Drawing level with Louis van Gaal’s side of 1997-98 with that achievement, a win or a draw at home to Paco Herrera’s side will see Vilanova’s team move outright as the Barcelona to have begun a League season strongest.

Whilst still going on to win the League in 1997-98, Van Gaal’s team lost their next two games after collecting 25 points from their opening nine rounds of action, at home to Real Valladolid and away to Athletic Bilbao.
