Osasuna taking Cup seriously

Asier Riesgo has urged his Osasuna teammates to make the most of the Copa del Rey tie at Sporting Gijon for the confidence it could bring.

The struggling La Liga side travel out to recently relegated Sporting on Thursday for the first leg of their round of 32 clash.

For Riesgo, this is a chance for Osasuna to both forget and improve upon the League struggles and he has promised that the team are aiming to progress.

“You have to look at this game and not any further. We are attentive to this tie, to compete, stand up and attempt to progress to the next round,” he promised at today’s Press conference.

“We are prepared to give a good account of ourselves and get a good result, considering that the other leg will be in Pamplona.

“We are currently not in the best position in the League, we are in a difficult moment. It is why we have to be calm to try and fix it. You have to remain so and work on turning things around.

“Some things are currently not being done well. We’re missing the finer details when pressing, trying to win the ball back, we are clearly not at the right level and we are missing points in the final third.

“This is a game to reaffirm things, take confidence from and feel that we can do things well.”

The goalkeeper briefly also looked ahead to the weekend’s test against Real Valladolid.

“We have to think that we need to push, to try and win the game. All the teams are struggling away from home, but home is where you cannot drop any points. With the games at home you have to move forward.”
