‘Copa is Espanyol’s opportunity’

Reserve goalkeeper at Espanyol Kiko Casilla says that a win in the Copa del Rey could boost his side’s League form.

Los Pericos break from a difficult start to the League campaign to travel away to Sevilla this midweek for the first leg round of 32 clash. For Casilla, the opportunity in the game is not just his to take.

“It will be a difficult game against a great team and at the Sanchez Pizjuan,” commented the usual back-up ‘keeper.

“I face this match with great enthusiasm and we are looking to win so as to progress in the competition. A Cup match is always nice to play and we have to go out there and do well and win.

“We are not where we would like to be in the League table but now we are on a run of form and would like to maintain it. The Cup should serve as a motivation towards the League.”

Although not confirmed as starting, Casilla is expected to replace Cristian Alvarez between the sticks for an opponent who he also played against last January in the League.

“I focus on working well and wait for my opportunity. You have to be at your best so if the Coach comes to count on you, you are not taken by surprise.

“The last game was the first match I had played after 15 minutes against Barcelona the previous week. I hope things go well this time so I can make it difficult for the Coach.”
