Real conqueror Schmelzer disbelieving

Scoring the winning goal against Real Madrid really was a dream come true for Borussia Dortmund defender Marcel Schmelzer.

The left back, who had been a doubt to feature in the Champions League encounter, smashed a low drive past Iker Casillas midway through the second half to give the German champions a 2-1 victory.

Borussia are now a point clear of Real at the top of Group D as a result.

“For us to beat Real Madrid at home is the fulfilment of a childhood dream,” beamed the German international.

“That I have scored the winning goal is something I am struggling to believe.”

Schmelzer's teammate Mats Hummels was also elated.

“It was a great game and a great result. It's clear that against a great team like Real Madrid, we had to give everything. That's what we lacked in a couple of Bundesliga matches, when we thought we could play at half speed.”

BVB will arrive at the Bernabeu for the return fixture in two weeks time.
