Malaga’s ‘most important game ever’

Joaquin Sanchez has described Wednesday night’s Champions League meeting with Milan as Malaga’s ‘most important in the history of this club’.

In their debut season in the competition, the Anchovies are preparing to welcome seven-time tournament winners Milan to La Rosaleda this Wednesday.

Currently top of the group with maximum points, Malaga go into the game also knowing that a result would edge them ever closer to next-round progression.

“We have noticed the excitement of the fans. We know the importance of the match against Milan, it is the most important in the history of this club,” commented 31-year-old Joaquin at today’s pre-match Press conference.

“Despite the atmosphere, we know we have to play with the commitment and attention to detail of our previous games. From there, we can try to play our game, that is the only way to get going and provide a victory for our fans.

“If we win then it would be a very important step to qualifying for the knockout round. We are going to suffer, but at home we have the commitment it takes.

“We know it will be a tough game and we’ll have to outrun then and do our things well.”

The former Real Betis and Valencia man is fully aware of the opponents he is facing this week.

“We will try to do things right. There is always the utmost respect for them, they are a team that is very experienced and with great players.

“They have a group of players of a high level and in any game can beat you. We must try to be better than them. We must recognise that this is Milan and they have a great track record in the Champions League.”
