Barca refute ‘Pepegate’ claim

Barcelona have offered a brief response to allegations that they organised secret filming of Real Madrid’s Pepe during 2010-11’s latter Clasicos.

The Catalans are alleged to have arranged to have the Portuguese defender tracked by video during the period of a few weeks in 2010-11 when Barcelona and Real Madrid met four times.

Real have already reacted with disappointment at the news through their sporting director Miguel Pardeza and now Barcelona have responded.

Director of institutional relations at the club, Pere Gratacos, explained that relations with the capital club are ‘very good’ and that the ‘pretence’ of this video of Pepe is one that the club have ‘no knowledge’ of.

Gratacos, however, also urged the reporters he was talking to to discuss the matter further with sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.

Meanwhile, Mundo Deportivo are reporting that Barca had found images of Pepe fouling their players during this period in question, but that these were among images of other Real Madrid players also fouling Barca players and had been accessed predominantly via television pictures.

It is alleged that Pep Guardiola was using images from the first two Clasicos of this period as a way to motivate his players for facing Los Blancos in the next two.
