Nine million watched Spain-France

The Spain-France World Cup qualifier on Tuesday night was seen by an average television audience of almost nine million.

According to RTVE, the game was the most-watched Spanish World Cup qualifying game for 16 years with 8.982,000 tuning in, equating to 44.1 per cent of the total viewing figures for the evening.

The match, broadcast on La 1 channel, was the third-highest viewed in the history of  World Cup qualifiers in Spain after the game against Denmark in November 1994 , with 9,629,000, and the clash between Spain and Yugoslavia in December 1996, which attracted an audience of 9,106,000.

The so-called ‘golden minute’ occurred at 10.47pm local time when a total of 11,024,000 people were watching, a 49.8 per cent share, with the total number of viewers put at 17,675,000.
