Florentino Perez insists that Los Blancos are proud to have Jose Mourinho as boss.
The Real Madrid President was speaking at the club’s general assembly and told members he thought the Portuguese was the best Coach in world football.
“We have the best Coach in the world at the head of a very high-quality playing squad. We are very proud Mourinho will be with us until 2016 as he conveys energy, knowledge and the spirit of Madrid,” declared Perez.
“We have just won the best League title in history, scoring a record number of goals and playing football of the highest quality and speed.
“Last season will remain in everybody’s memory as we only suffered two defeats and scored more than three goals per game.”
Perez then recalled the words UEFA President Michel Platini said to him, describing Madrid as ‘having invented modern football’ and insisted that under Mourinho the team had gone from ‘not being seeded in the Champions League to being one of the favourites for the competition’.
“We are now on our way to winning the coveted 10th [European Cup]” he trumpeted, whilst going on to talk about plans for the club’s Santiago Bernabeu home.
“We are looking at covering the whole stadium to give our fans maximum comfort. We want to make it a landmark for Madrid and the rest of the world.
“Madrid must be a reference for modernity, an undisputed symbol for sport, which must continue to be for its members, the people who shape our destiny.”
