Torres shell-shocked at Madrid rout

Millonarios boss Hernan Torres was shell-shocked at the way his side capitulated in the 8-0 thrashing at the hands of Real Madrid.

The Colombians suffered the worst defeat ever in the history of the Trofeo Bernabeu – played in honour of Madrid legend Alfredo di Stefano – and said it was a performance that was completely out of character for his players.

“Real Madrid were better, no question. Conceding so early cost us and we failed to cut out many balls and they took advantage with their speed. They are very quick in attack, strong and good defensively,” he told a Press conference.

“It is a hard blow to take losing 8-0 but these are men of character of experience. We now have games where we must improve both physiologically and in a footballing sense.

“If we aim to achieve what we want to then we need to do that. Otherwise we may as well turn the light off and forget it,” he told a brief post-match Press conference.

Finally, Torres lamented the fact his players did not show their true level at the Santiago Bernabeu.

“My team did not play today the way they do in the League. We lost a lot of balls, were always on the back foot, lacked boldness and showed Real Madrid too much respect.

“We did not play the way we are used to doing.”
