Athletic Bilbao and Malaga played out an eventless goalless draw on Sunday evening, maintaining the visitors’ unbeaten start to the season.
It was a tight affair in the first half with few scoring chances open to either team, and only Jesus Gamez’ snapshot in the 10th minute for Malaga bringing any action for either ‘keeper.
The second half began in the same fashion as the first half was played in, with both sides pushing for a goal but struggling to create much.
However, Malaga soon regressed to a more defensive state, happy to absorb pressure that Athletic tried to build, but still struggled to make effective.
The home side’s perserverance should have paid off with 10 minutes to go, when Oscar De Marcos was played through for a one-on-one with the ‘keeper, only to see Willy Caballero equal to his dinked effort.
That proved to be the only notable chance for either side, as the game ended goalless.
