Rayo claim Vallecas sabotage

President Raul Martin Presa has reflected on tonight’s shambles that have seen his club Rayo Vallecano have their game with Real Madrid postponed.

The match has been put back 24 hours to allow the minnows to try to fix deliberate damage to their electrical system.

Wires had been cut inside Rayo’s stadium, wiping out half the floodlights in the process, causing lighting conditions to be deemed unplayable and a logistical problem outside with fans shut out, waiting.

“We cannot play the game because the wires inside have been cut,” Club President Presa confirmed to reporters tonight.

“Saboteurs have climbed to the roof and the access there is very difficult. I do not think that they have done this for the reason of protesting the ticket prices that we have introduced for the game.”

The club had charged season ticket holders again to attend this match.

“We are saddened for our supporters. I hope you understand that it is something alien to us because it was an act of vandalism. I’m not technical and I cannot assess the damage because you need to study what has actually happened. There are cameras there, which can help us gain more information.

“The impact is great and serious. The referee said it was impossible to play and that was even though both teams wanted to play.

“The most important thing is that as many people as possible can come to the game tomorrow,” he finished, before later confirming that the Spanish Football Federation have agreed with him that kick-off on Monday will be 7pm UK time.
