Ifran: Montanier does not trust me

Real Sociedad striker Diego Ifran believes he has lost the confidence of boss Philippe Montanier.

An injury to Imanol Agirretxe has left the door open for a possible return to first-team action for Ifran against Levante this weekend, but the player told a Press conference he is not so sure he will get the nod.

“Against Real Zaragoza we had two forwards out injured and it was a great opportunity,” reflected Ifran, who only came off the bench towards the end of the game. “It suggested the Coach does not have much confidence in me.”

The Uruguayan believes it will be difficult for him to force his way in for the clash at the Ciutat de Valencia as others have been preferred before him.

“Antoine Griezmann and Carlos Vela have played at No 9 on other occasions, but the last thing I’m going to do is lose hope and I’ll intensify my efforts in training to convince Montanier.”

Ifran’s chances of a recall have been further dampened by the news that Xabi Prieto and Chori Castro have fully recovered from injury, although some Txuri-urdin supporters have been critical of his absence in recent weeks and blamed the Coach.

“I want to thank the support I’ve received from the fans as that has given me great strength,” said the 25-year-old.
