Mirandes through in Copa del Rey

Last season’s giant killers Mirandes are safely through to the Copa del Rey third round after beating Recreativo de Huelva 2-0.

The Burgos team reached the semi-finals last year – only the third team from the third tier to ever reach that stage – before being eliminated by Athletic Bilbao, and they had no problems of disposing of Recre on Tuesday.

Defender Rayco gave Mirandes the lead in the first minute before Javi Soria confirmed victory 15 minutes from time.

Elsewhere, two late goals from Leonardo Ulloa and Aaron Niguez enabled Almeria to progress at the expense of Real Murcia, while Alcorcon easily disposed of  Numancia 4-1 at the Estadio Santo Domingo.

Quini with a brace, David Miguelez and Juli scored for the Madrid side, who had Fernando Moran dismissed, with Airam Lopez replying for the visitors.

In the only other tie of the night Sabadell beat Hercules 2-0 at the Nova Creu Alta, Mexican Uli Davila putting the hosts ahead before Antonio Hidalgo’s volley wrapped things up against the Alicante-based outfit.
