Di Stefano: Pele was the greatest

Real Madrid legend Alfredo Di Stefano believes Pele was a better player than both Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.

The 86-year-old is Honorary President of the Spanish giants and played for the club between 1953 and 1964, yet he feels Brazilian star Pele was the greatest when it comes to naming the best footballer of all time.

“Messi and Ronaldo are both great players with special qualities but Pele was better,” said Di Stefano in an interview with El Colombiano.

Asked about Spain’s success at international level, the Argentine-born Spanish international was non-committal.

“Things go in cycles. They have good players and are well organised with a great midfield. They are also determined.”

Di Stefano also commented on current Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.

“I don’t speak to him much but I think he is a good Coach. He has won La Liga with Real Madrid and that’s good.

“He is controversial, something the Press likes, and creates talking points,” concluded Di Stefano.
