Caparros happy to be top of La Liga

Real Mallorca boss Joaquin Caparros is happy to see his team provisionally top of the table, but knows there is still much work ahead.

Los Bermellones stormed to the summit of La Liga with a 1-0 victory over Real Sociedad on Saturday night and have now taken seven points from a possible nine.

However, the 56-year-old is refusing to get carried away at this early stage of the season.

“It is a story to tell everybody. The feeling is good, people are happy and it’s positive that the fans can see us at the top, but we know this has just started and there is a lot of hard work in front of us,” he told a Press conference.

Caparros has been with the club just 11 months, yet he has already seen a large turnaround of players during that time and has stamped his own authority on the team, as he explained.

“We have some very special characteristics, with our strengths and weaknesses, but we are a very supportive team that works hard and we proved that tonight after a poor first half.”

Caparros maintained that the opening 45 minutes ‘were not us’ and that he had shown his players some pictures during the break to show them where they were going wrong.

“It worked because we came out determined and created chances, pressurised them and fortunately got the goal, so I am very happy with my players,” he declared.

The Andalusian-born Coach also spoke about new signing Giovanni Dos Santos, who watched the game from the stands.

“He is keen and that is a good sign. We need to help him to show his talent but first we must get him fit as he has arrived with some physical problems.

“However, the break from La Liga action will do him good,” he stressed.
