Osasuna’s Patxi Punal has been handed a four-game suspension by the Competition Committee for his red card picked up against Barcelona.
The captain saw red this weekend after taking his complaints with the match official too far. With 15 minutes of play to go, the midfielder was inadvertently obstructed from taking possession near the centre circle by the referee himself.
Lionel Messi picked up the ball and Barca went on to score from that same passage of play, resulting in Punal’s verbally abusive protestations and subsequent dismissal.
On from Fabio Coentrao and Tito Vilanova having bans confirmed, so too has the 36-year-old, who will have to sit out his side’s next four games.
