Former Espanyol full-back Didac Vila faces two months out of action after surgery, ending any hopes of a return to Spain this summer.
Milan-owned Vila saw a move to Valencia collapse earlier this summer after he failed a medical for a groin injury that Los Che said would require surgery.
That has proven to be the case, with the 23-year-old having gone under the knife this week and, as confirmed by Milan’s official website, now facing a recovery period of eight weeks, barring complications.
Vila graduated from Espanyol's youth system before signing for Milan in 2011. He returned to the Estadio Cornella-El Prat on loan last season.
