Ogunjimi slams Caparros

Belgian striker Marvin Ogunjimi says he will only return to Real Mallorca to complete his contract 'when [Joaquin] Caparros goes'.

Ogunjimi has gone on a season-long loan to Standard Liege and played the second half of Wednesday’s friendly against his parent club in Wavre, Belgium, that Mallorca won 1-0.

However, in declarations made to assembled media covering Los Bermellones’ pre-season tour, the 24-year-old pulled no punches in his assessment of Caparros.

“He was like a brick wall and I hope he goes so I can return to Mallorca, because with him there I will never go back,” he was quoted as saying by AS.

Having been signed from Racing Genk for €2.4m halfway through the 2011-12 seasons, Ogunjimi played a total of eight games for Mallorca – seven in La Liga and one in the Copa del Rey – but failed to register a single goal, and was told by Caparros he was not in his plans for next term.

His move to Mallorca was not without controversy as the Belgium international was supposed to have been transferred on the final day of the 2011 summer transfer market, but his papers arrived seven minutes late at FIFA resulting in his registration being declined.

Then boss Michael Laudrup blamed the mix-up on Mallorca director of football and majority shareholder Lorenzo Serra Ferrer, an episode that aggravated the already declining relationship between the pair and resulted in the Dane leaving the club less than one month later.
