Real Sociedad confirm Vela agreement

Real Sociedad have announced they have reached an agreement in principle with Arsenal for the purchase of forward Carlos Vela.

The Mexican international, 23, spent last season on loan at Anoeta and went on to notch 12 goals from 35 La Liga appearances, with seven assists, but despite Txuri-urdin boss Philippe Montanier’s wish to make the deal permanent the Gunners’ asking price of €7m was way above what the San Sebastian outfit could afford.

However, Cadena Ser claims the Basques have now come to an arrangement with the Premier League club and Vela, who was expected to arrive in Spain on Tuesday night, is due to be presented to fans and media on Thursday, although the time and place has not yet been revealed.

Vela scored just three goals in 29 League games for Arsenal since his €3m move from Guadalajara in July 2005 and has subsequently been loaned out to Celta Vigo, Salamanca, Osasuna and West Bromwich Albion respectively.
