Spain goalkeeper Iker Casillas believes his country’s Euro 2012 win is the greatest moment in its football history.
“This is the most wonderful time ever for Spanish football and we must also thank the people who have been working behind the scenes,” he told assembled reporters.
“I think we have a lot of talent in this team but we have been working towards this for quite some time.
“It has been four unforgettable years that will be very difficult to repeat.
“On the pitch everything went well and the players showed what they could do, but at 3-0 we killed the game.”
Despite the jubilation back home, Casillas insisted it had never been easy during a competition where Spain conceded just one goal.
“I guess the Spanish people are very happy now. Some might think that today was a walk in the park but we have had many problems getting here.”
