Paco Herrera was sanguine after the final whistle as his side went down 1-0, whilst Javier Aguirre admitted that win could be a turning point.
A first half strike from Sergio Garcia was enough to give the Periquitos the three points, but the 59-year-old was insistent that the match was an even one.
“It was an even game in which one of our errors was punished,” he told a Press conference.
“We had two or three chances and we didn't make them count – you have to accept those situations sometimes.
“Espanyol played well, and if they continue to play like this, deserve to stay in La Liga.”
The Mexican Coach meanwhile conceded that he was pleased with his players.
“I am satisfied with the performance of my team,” he told a Press conference. “The win has given us an injection and getting out of the relegation places will inspire and motivate us.
“However, if we let our guard down, we could be back in there.”
