Martin Montoya has commended Real Zaragoza after their battling performance, whilst Manolo Jimenez praised his own players despite the loss.

The Blaugrana ran out 3-1 winners in the Catalan capital with goals from Lionel Messi and Alex Song.

But the young full-back admitted that Manolo Jimenez's side took him by surprise.

“Today was a really tough game,” he told reporters. “We really had to work hard to win the game because Real Zaragoza put us in a difficult position.

“In fact they really surprised us.

“They played very well and had players in the middle of the pitch who moved the ball around very well.”

Jimenez meanwhile commended his team’s battling display, and also commented on match-winner Messi.

“We played a great game,” he told reporters. “But unfortunately we played against an even better opponent.

“Praise has to go to Lionel Messi – he decided the game. He's a very smart footballer both on and off the ball.

“When he has the ball, he's like an alien.”
