Mauricio Pellegrino admitted that his side deserved to beat Espanyol, whilst Mauricio Pochettino was furious with the officials.

Roberto Soldado converted his late spot-kick to give Los Che a 2-1 win, but the 41-year-old was clear that his team were worthy winners.

“Overall I think we deserved to win,” he told the club's official website. “We had more opportunities and were the better side.

“I am pleased with the team – the way they never gave up in an extreme situation.

“Praise has to go to Espanyol though. They were quality at times and created good opportunities.”

Pochettino meanwhile revealed that his team may make an official complaint in the coming days after the referee sent off two of his players late on

“Everyone makes mistakes,” he told a Press conference. “Even referees. But I think we need to be treated with some respect.

“The game has gone, the points will not come back, but things have happened tonight that are beyond our control.

“I believe that the club should make an official complaint.”
