Barcelona’s Nelson Semedo ruled out for five weeks

Barcelona defender Nelson Semedo is set for a five week injury lay off, according to reports in Marca.

The Portuguese international was withdrawn after just twenty minutes in their weekend 4-1 win over Celta Vigo at the Camp Nou, and reports have now confirmed a recurrence of a calf injury.

He has been ever present at right back so far this season, meaning Ernesto Valverde will have to shuffle his defensive unit around in the coming weeks.

Sergi Roberto moved to right back to replace Semedo against Oscar Garcia's side, but he is suspended for next weekend's La Liga trip to Leganes, after picking up his fifth league booking of the season.

That could mean a rare start for Moussa Wague, with Roberto stepping in as Semedo longer term replacement.

The former Benfica man is set to miss an important run of games for Valverde's side, including home matches against Borussia Dortmund and Real Mallorca, and trips to Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan and Real Sociedad.

However he is expected to be fit in time for the El Clasico clash with Real Madrid on December 18th.
