Bayern Munich to sign Espanyol midfielder Marc Roca

Bayern Munich will pay the €40m release clause of Espanyol midfielder Marc Roca, according to a report in L’Equipe.

The 22-year-old has established himself as a star player at the RCDE Stadium and the fresh report claims he will pen a five-year contract at the Bavarian club.

Bayern have already invested heavily in their first-team squad this summer with the arrivals of Benjamin Pavard, Lucas Hernandez, Jan-Fiete Arp, Ivan Perisic, Philippe Coutinho and Mickael Cuisance.

This latest move will follow Renato Sanches’ exit from Bayern to French club Lille, allowing the Bundesliga champions to reinvest in their central midfield.

Roca has starred for Spain’s Under-21 side and is poised to break into the senior international squad in the coming years.

The central midfielder has only made 81 first-team appearances for the Catalan club but has been widely praised for his technical ability, positional sense and leadership qualities.

Roca has a long-term deal at the Catalan club through to 2022 and could be the latest star to exit the club this summer after Mario Hermoso and Borja Iglesias joined Atletico Madrid and Real Betis respectively.
