Atletico Madrid to sign Ivan Saponjic from Benfica

Atletico Madrid are set to complete the signing of Benfica striker Ivan Saponjic in the next few days.

The Spanish side have already raided Benfica once during pre-season, after the signed teenage forward Joao Felix in a €126m deal earlier this month, and now they look set to return for the Serbian U21 forward.

According to reports in Marca, the deal could be done as early as July 8, with Saponjic then flying out to the USA, to join his new teammates in pre-season training.

There are no rumours of a fee, however the highly rated Saponjic is expected to cost Diego Simeone's side in the region of €8m, despite not making a first team appearance for Benfica.

Saponjic came to Atletico's attention during the 2019 U21 European Championship, where he partnered new Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic in the Serbian attack.

The arrival of Saponjic, is expected to signal the end for Croatian international Nikola Kalinic at the Wanda Metropolitano, as Simeone looks to freshen up his attacking options for the 2019-20 season.
