Valencia to land Denis Cheryshev from Villarreal

Valencia are set to complete the signing of Denis Cheryshev from Villarreal permanently this summer, report Marca.

The Russian international was on a season-long loan deal at the Mestalla and it was thought they had included a purchase option of €7m at the end of the season.

However, it is now said that the two clubs may negotiate on a lower figure as Villarreal have no ambition to integrate him back into their side while he is also recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury.

The fresh report adds that a deal is likely to be done within the region of €5m, and the player could be an alternative to landing either Denis Suarez or Rafinha Alcantara from Barcelona.

The former Real Madrid player has been in fine form for Los Che since his summer loan, netting four goals in 41 first-team appearances.

Cheryshev sustained the knee injury against Real Betis in April and missed Valencia’s crucial run-in including the Europa League semi-finals and Copa del Rey showpiece against Barcelona.

However, Marcelino Garcia Toral’s side managed to secure a top four spot whilst later defeating the Blaugrana in the Copa final to secure a memorable season in their centenary year, while Cheryshev is likely to continue.
