Girona’s Portu to join Real Sociedad

Real Sociedad have struck a deal to sign Girona forward Cristian Portugues – known as Portu – in a €10m deal, according to a report in Diario AS.

The 27-year-old netted 20 times in 71 appearances for the Catalan club across their two seasons in the top flight but was unable to help prevent the relegation this campaign.

The Valencia youth graduate joined Girona in 2016 and was instrumental in their promotion campaign in 2017 before starring in La Liga.

Girona are expecting to lose a host of stars this summer including Portu and Cristhian Stuani, with a number of La Liga clubs interested in the attacking players.

Portu is contracted to the club until 2022 and despite holding a reported release clause of €20m, that figure may have dropped due to the club’s relegation last month.

Real Sociedad are said to be paying €9m upfront for the player alongside an additional €1m in add-ons.

Portu is set to sign a four-year contract at the Anoeta, according to the report, and could become La Real’s first big signing of the summer.
