Everton insistent on Barcelona’s Andre Gomes

Everton boss Marco Silva has reaffirmed the club are trying to sign on-loan midfielder Andre Gomes from Barcelona on a permanent basis.

Everton – where the midfielder is currently playing – paid a season-long loan fee of €2.5m to land the Portuguese international but do not exercise an option to sign the midfielder permanently.

A report in Diario Sport last week claimed Tottenham were in the driving seat for the midfielder and were prepared to pay €30m for his signature this summer.

Gomes is not expected to return to the Camp Nou this summer and the North London club are potentially preparing for the possibility of Christian Eriksen moving on.

“We have to do some also, it is not finished,” Silva told the Liverpool Echo.

“Andre's future we keep open, and not just Andre but Zouma also.

“But you asked me about Andre. His future is open and it is up to us the best we can do to sign him.

“I don't know all the details but I think we already started to do something.”

The report indicates that Everton are unlikely to be able to match the financial demands of their rivals, but with Barca keen on a sale the deal may still be feasible for the Merseyside club.

Gomes joined Barca from Valencia in 2016 in a deal worth up to €55m but failed to settle at the Catalan giants.
