Real Madrid to renew Fede Valverde contract

Real Madrid are set to renew the contract of midfielder Fede Valverde in the coming months, according to a report in Marca.

The 20-year-old has made 24 appearances for Los Blancos this season having returned from a loan stint at Deportivo La Coruna last summer.

Indeed, seven of those appearances have come in Zidane’s first nine matches at the helm and he has been preferred ahead of Spanish duo Dani Ceballos and Marcos Llorente.

Both Ceballos and Llorente have been linked with summer exits from the outgoing European champions, as a summer clearout at the club appears increasingly likely.

However, Valverde appears certain to remain in the fold and despite his current deal running through until 2023, this may set to be renewed further.

Last month, he told reporters: “If a player wants to leave Real Madrid, there is something wrong inside their head.

“So if I have the opportunity of remaining given to me by the club, of course I will stay.”

Valverde joined Madrid from Penarol in 2016.
