Napoli want Real Madrid defender Theo Hernandez

Napoli have ‘set their sights’ on signing defender Theo Hernandez, currently on loan at Real Sociedad from Real Madrid, say reports.

El Espanol cite a report in Corriere dello Sport that the 21-year-old, who has endured an underwhelming time in the Basque Country this season, is a target for the Italian side.

Theo was signed by Madrid from city rivals Atletico in the summer of 2017 in a landmark deal worth a reported €24m but his career has stalled since.

He started just ten La Liga matches in his first season with Los Blancos and failed to dislodge long-standing first-choice left-back Marcelo at the club.

He was subsequently loaned to La Real this season but once again has struggled, featuring in just 24 league games this season and recently being left out of matchday squads entirely.

Napoli are said to be keen on the player with boss Carlo Ancelotti a particular admirer, while it is pointed out that Theo also shares the same agent as Napoli forward Jose Callejon.

Sergio Reguilon has subsequently emerged in Madrid’s first-team and there is no indiciation that Theo will remain part of the club’s long-term plans.
