Zinedine Zidane: Real Madrid must make La Liga objective

Zinedine Zidane insists winning La Liga next season is Real Madrid’s ‘primary objective’ and described anything else as falling below those standards.

Barcelona’s win at Alaves on Wednesday night meant that Madrid can no longer mathematically win this season’s league title.

Los Blancos are 16 points off the pace at the top of the Spanish league – although have played one game less – and have won just two league titles in the last 11 seasons, despite winning four Champions League titles in the past five seasons.

“La Liga must be the primary objective for this club, there is no doubt about this,” Zidane told reporters at his press conference on Wednesday.

“You have to congratulate Barcelona on their success, they have been doing incredibly well recently but Real Madrid have many more league titles in their history.

“We know it is not acceptable for Madrid not to be at the very top so we must have to change this for next year – we know this will not be easy but it what we must strive for.”
