Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni ‘in serious condition’ after being struck by car

Argentina boss Lionel Scaloni has been rushed to hospital in a ‘grave condition’ after being hit by a car while cycling, say reports in Spain.

The 40-year-old was riding his bicycle in the Balearic Islands at 10am on Tuesday morning when the incident occurred, according to the Diario de Mallorca.

The former wing-back is most famed in Spanish football for an eight-year stint at Deportivo La Coruna, when he won the Spanish league title, along with stints at Racing Santander and Real Mallorca.

The report claims the incident happened in a school car park, when the driver of a car hit the cyclist, whose head then hit off the ground.

The Coach has subsequently been taken to the Son Espases hospital where he has been treated for brain trauma and will continue to be assessed.

Despite initial reports suggesting a more serious injury, El Mundo Deportivo claim the Coach's condition 'is between mild and moderate'.

Scaloni was appointed as the Argentina national team boss following last year’s World Cup, when Jorge Sampaoli was dismissed when his side exited at the Round of 16.

This is a developing news story.
