Messi: We have to prepare for quarter final battle

Barcelona captain Lionel Messi has warned his teammates that they face a real test, whoever they are drawn against in the Champions League quarter final stage.

The La Liga leaders blew away Ligue 1 side Lyon with a 5-1 second leg victory in the round of last 16, with Messi netting his 35th and 36th goal in all competitions in 2018-19.

The Catalan side could be pitted against former manager Pep Guardiola, and his Manchester City side, and the Argentina international knows they will need to be prepared.

"City and Juventus are both very good and Ajax are a great young side.

"But whoever we get it will be difficult, and we must prepare for the hardest possible test in the coming weeks."

A meeting with Serie A side Juventus in the last eight would see a re-run of the 2015 Champions League final, where Barcelona won 3-1, and also a reunion with Messi's old rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Three goals from the Portugese international dumped out Atletico Madrid o Tuesday night, and Messi was full of praise for the former Real Madrid forward.

"I did expect Atletico to show more strength in the tie, but Cristiano was impressive.

'He had a magical night, with three goals."
